Eugene, OR

About

Lying at the south end of the Willamette Valley at the juncture of the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers, Eugene is the second-largest city in Oregon. Locals and visitors enjoy easy access to the valley's more than 700 wineries for touring and tasting, a wealth of fresh food thanks to the abundant organic farmers in the area and a thriving arts scene. Its official slogan is "A Great City for the Arts & Outdoors," with public art popping up everywhere, from the sides of buildings painted with dramatic murals to sidewalk installations. The Hult Center for the Performing Arts offers ballet, symphony, opera, concert choirs and big-name touring acts, including comedy, concerts and Broadway musicals. Some popular activities include fly-fishing on the legendary McKenzie River, hiking to the top of Spencer Butte for a panoramic view and pedaling the scenic bike path along the Willamette River.
