Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Travel/Contract

Location: Eureka, California
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Beds: 150 staffed beds


Job Details

  • Daily Average Case Volume: 30 cases per day
  • Patient Population Preference: Pediatrics (minimal), Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes
  • On-call Requirement: Yes (1 weekend per month & 1-2 shifts per week)
  • Floating: Required between like units
  • Block Schedule: Possible, at manager discretion
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CA State License
  • NCCT or CST (Certified Surgical Technologist)

Additional certifications may be required based on unit or specialty, including but not limited to:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Chemotherapy Certification (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification (if applicable)

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Scrub color provided for OR/Cath Lab staff
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Free parking on first day; assignment parking provided during orientation

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington state patrol, OBRA registry for CNAs)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering relevant experience
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent), updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • TB (negative test or chest x-ray)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella (Chickenpox) - 2 vaccines or positive titer or declination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine (required during flu season, declination accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance for respirator use (travel only, annual)

Training & Competency

  • Completion of required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
    • Core modules by profession and region
    • Specialty-specific modules (e.g., OR, ER, L&D)
    • Annual regulatory requirements
  • Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, EFM, etc.)
  • Epic training modules required and must be completed within orientation week

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy acknowledgment required; may float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • Facility provides scrub colors for various roles (e.g., RN: royal blue/navy; RRT: forest green)
  • Free parking on first day, with assigned parking after orientation
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; all licenses must be current and valid at time of submission
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission
