Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Mission Hills, California

Job Details

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Floating Expectation: No
  • Patient Ratios: 1:20
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years acute care hospital case management experience, including care coordination and discharge planning. Hospital experience is mandatory.
  • Weekend Requirement: Weekend rotation plus meeting department needs
  • License: California state nursing license required. Pending licenses accepted but must be active by start date.
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Contract Length

  • 18 weeks (interpreted from contract_length value)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
  • Chemotherapy Certification (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification (if applicable) – AWHONN or NCC-EFM accepted
  • Fire Card – Required; must be completed prior to or within 30 days post-start
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Certification (if applicable)
  • IV Certification (for LVN/LPN/Other as applicable)
  • State License – Copy of professional license required
  • NURSYS Verification (for RN, LPN/LVN, AP)

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Comprehensive background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education Verification (3rd party) for all candidates; international education requires additional documentation
  • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington WSP/WATCH, OBRA Registry for CNAs)
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years (6 months for CNAs)
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps/overlaps

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) – Required for travel starts after 2/5/2024, updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
  • Hepatitis B – Vaccination series or signed declination; special rules for Alaska placements
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine during flu season or declination accepted
  • COVID-19 Vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance (RespSafety) for respirator use, required annually for travel starts after 2/5/2024

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Competency Exams as required by profession/specialty
  • Color Blind Testing (if specifically requested)
  • Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment or EFM Certification for Labor & Delivery RNs (effective 9/30/2024)
  • Medication Aide exam for CNAs with LTC specialty at specified Oregon Assisted Living facilities

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Scrub Color: Scrubs or Business Attire
  • Badge Photo: Passport-style photo with neutral background may be required
  • Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp LMS modules prior to start, including:
    • Core Modules by profession and region
    • Specialty-specific modules for ER, L&D, Leadership roles
    • Regional Core and Specialty modules as applicable
    • Annual Regulatory Modules (approx. 3.5 hours)
  • Epic Access Training Modules (for SoCal and other specified regions) required for Per Diem candidates
  • Compliance with Providence floating policy acknowledgment (may require floating to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance)

Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted; clinical screening required
  • Background checks and certifications must be current and compliant with Providence Health and Services standards
  • Some certifications and modules may be deferred or waived based on clinical track or non-clinical status
  • Candidates must comply with all state-specific and facility-specific documentation and training requirements
