Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Mission Viejo, California
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Float Pool Pod A ICU
• Shift: Weekends required minimum every other weekend; may exceed based on unit needs
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
• First-time travelers accepted
• Floating: Required to float between like units; may float to nearby Providence facilities (e.g., Providence Mission Laguna)
• Block scheduling: Possible, at manager discretion
• On-call: Not required
• Pending license: Not accepted
• Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
• Charting system: Epic
• Parking: Free

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
• NIH Stroke Certification (renew every 2 years)
• CPR certifications as applicable
• Other certifications may be required based on unit and clinical track (e.g., PALS, NRP, CPI)

Licensure

• Valid California RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs
• State-specific license verifications as applicable

Experience & References

• Minimum 1 year of relevant ICU experience
• Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
• References must be from supervisors who directly oversaw the candidate

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education verification required for all candidates
• Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
• Fit mask testing required for travel nurses (updated annually)

Training & Competency

• Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:

  • Core modules for RN profession in California
  • Specialty-specific modules for ICU and float pool roles
  • Annual regulatory requirements
• Epic training modules completion required (for Providence SoCal facilities)
• Medication and competency exams as applicable
• Color blindness testing if required by unit

Additional Notes

• Float pool nurses may be required to float to other Providence facilities within a reasonable distance
• Local radius for assignment is 50 miles
• Facility provides free parking
• Facility staffed beds: 488

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are flexible with weekend shifts and floating between units. Compliance with Providence’s extensive credentialing, background, and training requirements is mandatory.
