Job Opportunity: Radiology / Cardiology Travel Contract

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Clinic-based role with no required orientation or Dimensions training; can start directly at the clinic.
  • Float coverage between two clinical sites approximately 25-30 minutes apart.
  • No call or weekend requirements.
  • Floating required between sites.
  • Shift options:
    • 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, occasionally 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM)
    • 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (staggered shifts between 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM with 30-minute lunch)
  • Ratio: 1 therapist to 5 patients
  • Therapists always work paired with at least one other therapist; no solo work.
  • Contract staff may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Skills:
    • Adult Acute Care
    • CT Simulation
    • Custom Molds and Shields
    • MRI, PET Scan
    • Tumor Localization
    • Beam Modifying/Positioning, Block cutting
    • CBCT/kV/mV imaging
    • Radiation dose calculation (though traveler will NOT be expected to perform dose calculations or CT sims alone)
    • Pinnacle (Philips), Eclipse (Varian) software
    • External Beam Therapy, IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)
    • ARIA system
    • Varian 21 ex/ix linear accelerators
    • Use of lift/transfer devices
    • Isolation Precautions and Radiation Safety
    • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
    • Simulation of Treatment Sites
    • CT/iCT
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ARRT T (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Therapy)

Work Environment and Unit Details

  • Primary site: 3 Varian linear accelerators and 1 CT simulator
  • Secondary site: 1 Varian True Beam and Siemens CT simulator
  • Traveler will float between sites based on volume and coverage needs
  • MD and RN always on-site during the day
  • No expectation to cut blocks, perform CT sims alone, or calculate doses independently
  • Scheduling managed by manager; shifts primarily 8 AM - 5 PM, occasionally 9 AM - 6 PM
  • Holiday schedule: Clinic works the Sunday before Thanksgiving and Christmas, closed the Friday after

Orientation and Uniform

  • No orientation or Dimensions training required before starting
  • Unit orientation: To Be Determined (TBD)
  • Scrubs: Not provided; Royal Blue color recommended

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks within 6 months required (SSN trace, county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search)
  • Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Various health documents required including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with documentation)
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Certifications and competencies as applicable (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, TNCC, EFM) depending on role
  • Radiation badge required for Radiation Therapists and related specialties
  • Photo for badge must be submitted promptly after contract signing
  • Completion of facility-specific training modules including Medication Safety, Confidentiality Agreement, Hospital Policies, and Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (travelers only)
  • Must complete Color Blind Testing within 1 year prior to start
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as per Aya Healthcare standards

Additional Notes

  • Traveler will be part of a team and will not work independently on critical tasks such as dose calculations or CT simulations.
  • Floating between two clinical sites is mandatory.
  • Contract staff may be required to respond to emergency situations such as storms or disasters.
  • The clinic accepts 13-week contracts only.
  • No call or weekend shifts required.

This position is ideal for Radiology/Cardiology therapists with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable floating between multiple sites and working flexible shifts without call or weekend requirements. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
