Job Opportunity: Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Santa Rosa, California
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care Hospital

Position Details

  • Specialty: Surgical Services

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: 12-hour shifts with variable start times (7am, 9am, 11am)
  • Night Shift: May need to cover one night shift during contract
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, 3 weekends per schedule
  • On-Call: One weeknight per week and every 2nd or 3rd weekend (Sat or Sun) from 7am to 7am with 20-minute response time
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals: Not accepted
  • Pending State License: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Experience & Case Types

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS: Required (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification accepted)
  • National Certifications: Not required
  • State License: Must be current and valid (pending licenses not accepted)

Requirements & Compliance

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
  • Fit Mask Test: Required for travel candidates, updated annually
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required for travel candidates, updated annually

Scheduling & Float Policy

  • May be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and approved based on facility needs

Training & Competency

  • Completion of required WorkRamp modules prior to start (Core, Specialty, Regional, and Annual Regulatory modules as applicable)
  • Epic training modules required within a week of orientation
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable by profession
  • Skills checklists updated annually for applicable units

References & Employment History

  • Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required

Additional Notes

  • Locals and candidates with pending state licenses are not accepted
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • On-call response time is 20 minutes
  • Night shift coverage may be required once during contract
  • No block scheduling available

This position is ideal for Surgical Techs with at least 1 year of experience, comfortable with orthopedic, neuro, and vascular cases, willing to work weekends, nights, and on-call shifts, and able to complete required certifications and training.
