Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technologist (Generalist)

Location: Gunnison, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Perform as a generalist Bench Technologist
Work schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Wednesday through Saturday, 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Must have experience with EPIC and blood bank systems
Responsible for testing and reporting results within required turnaround times (30-60 minutes for stat results)
Communicate and resolve specimen or testing problems promptly
Demonstrate competency in routine and special specimen collection techniques, including venipuncture, blood gases, throat swabs, influenza swabs, timed specimens, blood culture collection, blood bank specimens, coagulation studies, difficult draws, and special situations
Exercise sound judgment, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively

Requirements

Education

Completion of a Medical Technology Program approved by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), OR
Three years of academic studies at an accredited college plus 12 consecutive months of internship in an accredited school of medical technology, leading to a Bachelor's Degree

Experience

Must have completed an internship in an accredited school of Medical Technology
Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and instrumentation
Ability to perform routine and emergency procedures with initiative and judgment

Licenses/Certifications

ASCP board certified, or equivalent, or qualified through examination by the Health, Education and Welfare accreditation program

Skills

EPIC experience required
Knowledge of blood bank, chemistry, special chemistry, coagulation, hematology, serology, phlebotomy, and minimal microbiology

Additional Information

Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) check required
Reliable transportation required due to lack of public transportation in rural Gunnison
