Location: Sitka, Alaska

Specialty

• Medical Laboratory Scientist with a strong Microbiology background preferred
• Active ASCP or AMT certification required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of progressive clinical experience or 1 year hospital internship after degree
• Required specialty experience: 3 years (higher value taken from data)
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Education & Certification

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (AMT or ASCP)

Job Description

• Perform all levels of testing including CLIA-defined high complexity testing
• Work independently with advanced technical skills and seasoned judgment
• Provide 24-hour laboratory coverage including shift work, nights, and weekend call
• Work with diverse patient populations: infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Handle complex technical problems and ensure quality control throughout testing process
• Write and update procedures using CLSI format
• Establish and maintain quality control programs and ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission standards
• Train new employees and provide ongoing education to staff
• Assist laboratory manager with competency evaluations, process improvements, and regulatory inspections
• Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory levels
• Provide limited test utilization and interpretation information to medical and nursing staff
• Troubleshoot and resolve inconsistencies in patient results

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of laboratory testing, LIS operation, equipment use, and quality control
• Ability to interpret lab reports and troubleshoot problems
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and maintain accuracy in test results
• Ability to train staff and support continuing education
