Job Opportunity: Case Manager (Registered Nurse)

Job Description

• Start Date: ASAP
• Floating Expectation: No
• First Time Traveler: Not accepted; must be a seasoned traveler
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:25
  • Weekends: 1:45
• Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years of Acute Care Case Management/Discharge Planning experience
  • Hospital experience required; behavioral health experience does not apply
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend to meet department needs
• Licensing:

  • California state nursing license required
  • Pending license accepted only if licensed by start date
• Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
• Chemotherapy Certification (if applicable)
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification (if applicable)
• IV Certification (if applicable)
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
• NIH Stroke Certification (every 2 years)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Certification (if applicable)
• State License - Must have a valid California RN license
• NURSYS Verification required for all RNs

Required Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Competency Exams relevant to specialty
• Color Blind Testing (if required by unit)
• Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment or EFM Certification for Labor & Delivery RNs

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Fit Mask Test (N95 or equivalent) - Annual requirement for travel staff
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
• Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer, or declination
• Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (special rules for Alaska placements)
• Varicella vaccination or positive titer, or declination
• 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• Seasonal Flu Vaccine or declination during flu season (9/1–3/30)
• COVID vaccine or declination
• Respiratory Safety Clearance (RespSafety) for respirator use, annually

Background and Compliance

• Background Check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education Verification required for all candidates (nursing degree verification for RNs)
• Employment Application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
• Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within last 3 years
• Skills Checklists updated annually (if applicable)
• State-specific background checks and registry searches as required (e.g., Washington state requirements)

Training and Modules

• Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:

  • Core Modules for RN/LVN in California
  • Specialty-specific modules based on region and specialty (e.g., ER, ICU, L&D)
  • Annual Regulatory Requirements modules
  • Epic training modules (if applicable)
  • Trauma Informed Care modules (effective 12/22/2025 for new/extended placements)
• Modules assigned and tracked via Aya Healthcare LMS platform

Additional Notes

• No floating required
• Must meet department weekend coverage needs
• Must be licensed and credentialed prior to start
• Prior travel experience is required (seasoned traveler only)

This position is ideal for experienced acute care case management nurses who are comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care environment and have prior travel nursing experience.
