Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs technical, clerical, and information systems procedures in various laboratory areas including Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, and specimen procurement. The role involves operating laboratory equipment to provide timely and accurate test results, ensuring high-quality patient care. The MLT monitors quality control procedures and participates in Laboratory Quality Improvement programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests efficiently and accurately across multiple disciplines such as hematology, chemistry, serology, blood bank, microbiology, and urinalysis.
• Organize work and manage time to complete technical tasks within realistic limits.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Enter data from medical tests and clinical results into computer systems.
• Collect and study blood samples, including venipuncture and capillary draws, and instruct nursing staff on proper sample collection methods.
• Analyze samples for chemical content, abnormalities, and compatibility for transfusion purposes.
• Maintain instrument and lab section, including scheduled maintenance and monitoring consumables.
• Provide technical information about test results to physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Required Qualifications

• Relevant licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in Washington state.
• Experience performing laboratory tests in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, and related areas.
• Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Experience with specimen collection techniques including venipuncture and capillary draws.
