Job Opportunity: RN - Critical Care Unit (CCU)

Location: San Marcos, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Shift: Nights, 7 PM - 7 AM
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a competent Registered Nurse with critical care experience to provide routine and complex nursing care independently. The role involves managing patients with a variety of critical conditions and requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration, and advocacy skills.

Patient Population

• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Post STEMI (s/p STEMIs)
• Stroke (s/p TNK)
• Intubated/Ventilated patients
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS)
• Congestive Heart Failure exacerbation (CHF)
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease exacerbation (COPD)
• Gastrointestinal bleeds
• Renal failure requiring CRRT or SLED
• Liver failure
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
• Impella device patients

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation)
• Manage complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Administer medications and treatments, monitor for side effects and effectiveness
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate to other care providers as needed
• Meet organizational competencies related to leadership and clinical practice

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Critical Care (ICU) setting required
• Several years of ICU experience strongly preferred

Licenses & Certifications

• Current RN license in Texas or compact license
• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS (AHA) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient in EPIC electronic health record system
• Experience with Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Ability to use Excel for scheduling
• Strong clinical judgment, caring practices, collaboration, diversity responsiveness, systems thinking, clinical inquiry, and advocacy

Additional Information

• New hires must complete New Nurses Orientation within 30 days
• Preceptorship and competency validations required upon hire
• Completion of annual competency verifications required
