Job Summary

Seeking a competent Registered Nurse with critical care experience to provide independent nursing care in a complex clinical setting. The role involves managing patients with serious conditions such as DKA, post-STEMI, stroke, intubation/ventilation, ARDS, MODS, CHF exacerbation, COPD exacerbation, GI bleeds, renal failure (CRRT/SLED), liver failure, IABP, and Impellas.

The nurse will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, caring practices, collaboration, diversity responsiveness, systems thinking, clinical inquiry, and advocacy. Proficiency with EPIC, Pyxis, and Excel for scheduling is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine and complex nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation).
• Manage psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitor side effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
• Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers.
• Meet organizational competencies related to leadership and nursing standards.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in critical care nursing (ICU experience strongly emphasized)
• Several years of ICU experience preferred (based on description)

Licenses & Certifications

• Current RN license in Texas or compact license
• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS (AHA) required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required

Additional Requirements

• New hires must complete New Nurses Orientation within 30 days
• Preceptorship by trained staff and successful completion of organizational and critical care competency validations
• Completion of all annual competency verifications

Work Schedule

• Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM
• Full-time position

• Stroke (post-TNK)
• Intubated/ventilated patients
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS)
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) exacerbation
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbation
• Gastrointestinal bleeds
• Renal failure requiring CRRT or SLED
• Liver failure
• Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella device patients

Prior Travel Experience

• Not explicitly required

This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with complex patient care and night shifts.
