Job Description

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a variety of administrative and clinical functions including:

• Scheduling and greeting patients
• Scheduling surgeries
• Performing diagnostic and eye function tests such as clinical optics, ocular motility, visual fields, keratometry, topography, A-Scans, and Schirmer test
• Assisting with office surgical procedures
• Administering topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the ophthalmologist for testing or treatment
• Recording accurate charting and other office procedures
• Assisting ophthalmologist and/or optometrist with office patient procedures

Note: Requires one Saturday shift per month on rotation from 8am-12pm.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
• Ophthalmic Technician experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience with Optos equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited program for Ophthalmic Technicians
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Required Licenses/Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Additional Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to meet essential job functions
• Fit mask test within 12 months (Fit Test required for clinical candidates)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• Required immunizations:

  • Flu vaccine (mandatory during flu season, no declinations accepted)
  • MMR (2 doses or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 doses or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series, titer, or declination
• Drug screening within 1 year of start (panel excludes Marijuana/THC)
• Background check including 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and others as specified
• Education verification and transcript/diploma submission
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Professional references: 2 required, at least 1 supervisory

• One Saturday shift per month on rotation, 8am-12pm
