Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burlington, Vermont
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
- Shift: Rotating day/night shifts
- Schedule: Minimum of every other weekend required; schedule flexibility needed to meet unit and patient care needs
- No block schedules
- Large, teaching facility experience required
- EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years is mandatory
- Prior travel experience required unless candidate has worked in large (500+ bed), teaching facilities and multiple ERs
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse license valid in Vermont
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification prior to start
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification prior to start
- CEN, ENPC, MOAB, ProAct, or other de-escalation training preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room nursing experience
- Experience in large, teaching hospital settings strongly preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required unless exceptions noted above
Orientation & Training
- Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
- Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approximately 8 hours, non-billable)
- Must provide screenshot of completed modules before start
Additional Requirements
- Complete and explain any employment gaps over 90 days
- Provide detailed work history including bed count, EMR used, and facility type
- Reliable personal transportation required (public transportation not accessible)
- Vehicle should have all-season or snow tires November through April
Background & Health Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification as applicable
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- N95 fit test prior to assignment and annually (approved mask types specified)
- Immunizations and testing required:
- Tdap within 10 years or titer
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive TB
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination if assigned to New York facility
- Drug testing as required
Compliance & Documentation
- Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent form required
- COVID questionnaire and vaccination attestation required prior to start
- Photo for badge (passport style, plain background) required two weeks before start
- Auto insurance proof required if using personal vehicle for work-related travel
- Review of dress code and telephone usage policies required
- Emergency contact form completion required
- References: Two professional references from assignments within last 3 years
- Skills checklist within 12 months
- Work history verification for last 2 years
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Vermont
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current American Heart Association certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system
Notes
- Public transportation is not available; reliable personal transportation is essential
- Must complete all required documentation and training timely to avoid delays
- Facility enforces strict COVID-19 testing and masking protocols on Day 1 of assignment
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurses who are flexible, have recent EPIC experience, and are comfortable working in a large, teaching hospital environment. Prior travel nursing experience is preferred.
