Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: Days
Hours: Option of 36 or 48 hours per week
Unit: Float required, weekends as needed
Patient Population: Stroke patients and surgery patients
Telemetry: Central monitoring tech available 24/7; no need to interpret dysrhythmias
Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty required
Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers welcome

Required Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as applicable
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as applicable
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) as applicable
CHEMO Certification as applicable
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) as applicable
CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) as applicable
Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
Color Blind Testing (online)
Competency Exams as applicable (minimum 80% score)
NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)

Required Licenses

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Mexico with primary source verification

Health and Compliance Requirements

Physical exam within 12 months of start
Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years (medical exemptions must be approved)
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
Required immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (New Mexico placements only)

Background and Documentation

7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
Education verification required (highest level)
Work history verification for 7 years
Driver’s license or state ID required
Photo for badge required
Employment application and resume required
Unit-specific skills checklist required annually

Additional Information

Scrub color: Any color, no logos
Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
References: Internal only; not required for clearance

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

This position is suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of medical-surgical experience who are interested in a travel contract opportunity in New Mexico. First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply.
