Registered Nurse - Primary Care

Location: Juneau, Alaska

Job Summary

This position is within a primary care program focused on healthcare for the homeless population. The role supports patients and medical staff in an ambulatory care clinic setting, ensuring smooth clinic operations and quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical nursing services in collaboration with providers, clinic staff, and management to ensure high-quality care and efficient resource use.
• Maintain medication inventory and supplies outside of the warehouse system.
• Perform quality control checks on Point of Care tests.
• Accurately document all nursing care and services in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist providers and staff by anticipating their needs to support efficient patient care.
• Communicate effectively with other departments to serve as a resource for patients, providers, and clinic staff.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and report any equipment or safety issues.
• Participate in mandatory training, in-services, and staff meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska at time of application.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of primary care nursing experience.
• Proof of flu vaccination required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of nursing processes and ability to apply them in clinical settings.
• Understanding of customer service, safety, and infection control principles.
• Skilled in patient assessments, specimen collection, and use of medical and computer equipment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and be a team player.
• Willingness to teach others and seek help when needed.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to maintain good working relationships.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Additional Information

• Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the work location.
• Start date depends on completion and processing of fingerprinting, which may delay the start by at least 5 weeks.
• Housing and travel expenses are not provided.
