Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Fullerton, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to provide expert care in a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. The role requires independent performance of sterile vaginal exams and triage, with a strong emphasis on clinical expertise and adherence to certification requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide labor and delivery nursing care with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision.
  • Participate in triage and labor assessments.
  • Float between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units as needed.
  • Work weekends every other week, with potential for additional weekend shifts to meet unit needs.
  • Utilize EPIC electronic health record system for charting and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision
  • Experience in triage
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

  • Must comply with local radius work requirements (within 50 miles).
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Must include Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission.
  • Scheduling requests due to additional employment will not be considered.
  • Floating to mother-baby unit required.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination form
    • COVID vaccine or declination form
  • Respirator fit testing required annually for travel staff.
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years.

Training and Competency

  • Must complete required competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required (AWHONN or NCC-EFM accepted).
  • Completion of specialty-specific and regulatory training modules prior to start, including annual updates.
  • Epic training modules completion required before or immediately after start date.

Notes

  • This position requires a high level of clinical skill and certification adherence.
  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and floating assignments.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome, provided they meet the minimum experience and certification requirements.
  • Pending licenses are not accepted; all licenses must be current and valid at time of submission.
