Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department is responsible for coordinating and delivering nursing care to patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric. The RN performs all aspects of direct patient care, including triage, assessments, treatments, and emergency interventions, while collaborating with healthcare providers and ancillary services to ensure efficient and quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care across all age groups.
• Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level process.
• Document nursing care and patient responses accurately and legally.
• Coordinate care for multiple patients, prioritizing to enhance patient flow and quality.
• Communicate patient needs clearly with providers, peers, and ancillary departments.
• Advocate for patients through effective communication and use of chain of command when necessary.
• Participate in professional development and complete required education and audits.
• Assess patient and family knowledge and discharge needs.
• Monitor life support and technical equipment; perform routine and complex treatments including medication administration and emergency resuscitation.
• Insert and administer IV fluids, blood products, and other parenteral fluids safely.
• Respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations, directing others as needed.
• Use delegation appropriately and comply with legal and transfer protocols.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and ensure proper room stocking before shift end.
• Provide educational experiences for pre-hospital emergency providers and students.
• Demonstrate proficiency in computerized patient documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC or ATCN required; ENPC preferred; NRP encouraged.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Additional Information

• Shift: Nights, Friday through Sunday, 7 PM to 7 AM.
• Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
