Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Nights

Location: Chariton, Iowa
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provides direct patient care under limited supervision, planning, directing, and evaluating total nursing care for medical-surgical patients. Collaborates effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure continuity of care.

Essential Functions

• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate courtesy and cooperation with coworkers, patients, and visitors.
• Provide high-quality nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions on the unit.
• Stay calm and resourceful during emergencies.
• Communicate patient needs and unit issues to physicians, nurses, and staff.
• Use data to prioritize patient physical, psychological, educational, and discharge needs in care planning.
• Identify problems and guide staff toward solutions.
• Foster a positive work environment that supports growth and job satisfaction.
• Administer medications and IV solutions accurately and skillfully.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation and reporting.
• Ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available.
• Implement nursing interventions safely using professional judgment and knowledge.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care plans and adjust as needed.
• Prioritize workload effectively.
• Support infection control policies and procedures.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training.
• Maintain professional patient confidentiality.
• Follow hospital policies and procedures.
• Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Attend required meetings and in-services.

Required Qualifications

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years acute care nursing experience.
• Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.

• Must demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision using professional judgment and nursing standards.
• Regular and predictable attendance required.
