Registered Nurse, Operating Room

Job Description

• Provide patient care based on standards of care, practice protocols, and established policies.
• Conduct interactions in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
• Advocate for patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Respond immediately and appropriately in emergency situations.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans.
• Provide patient and family teaching tailored to learning needs and readiness.
• Collaborate in discharge planning incorporating necessary support systems.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others appropriately.
• Prioritize patient care and seek assistance or reassign personnel as needed.
• Document all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses thoroughly and timely.
• Provide thorough handoff reports to ensure continuity of care.
• Promote learning and professional development for self and colleagues.
• Identify and report risks to patient safety and healthcare errors.
• Address ethical issues in patient care.
• Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy per orders and protocols.
• Assess and reassess patient pain levels, document responses, and notify physicians as needed.
• Complete medication reconciliation documentation.
• Collaborate with surgical team members to ensure patient well-being during surgery.
• Maintain sterile fields and oversee proper handling and sterilization of supplies and instruments.
• Verify patient identity, consent forms, and operative site before surgery.
• Apply aseptic techniques and principles of body mechanics during patient positioning and transfer.
• Maintain sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and notify surgeon of results.
• Handle specimens and cultures according to established procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Recent Operating Room (OR) experience required.
• ACLS certification upon hire OR active BLS certification with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire.
• CNOR certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
• Must participate in call rotation as required by the unit.
