Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with experience in respiratory and neuro diagnostics to work in a large respiratory care department. The role involves working primarily in med/surg and ICU step-down units, with possible shifts in the Emergency Department. Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Experience in Emergency Room (ER), Adult ICU, Med/Surg, and ICU/Stepdown settings
  • Ventilator management experience
  • Experience with BiPAP, CPAP, vest therapy, PAP therapy, and heated high-flow oxygen therapy
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with bronchoscopes
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification preferred
  • Note: CRT credential not accepted for this role

Work Details

  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts
  • Hours: 36 or 48 hours can be offered
  • Patient Ratios: 35-45 patients per day
  • Call Requirement: On-call as needed, workload dependent
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
  • Floating: No floating to other facilities; may float within the assigned unit
  • Orientation:
    • Day shift orientation: 7am - 7pm
    • Night shift orientation: 7pm - 7am, with some day shifts required for orientation
  • Scrubs: Black scrubs required

Patient Population & Equipment

  • Patients range from adolescents to geriatrics
  • Use of specialized respiratory equipment including:
    • Servo I, Servo U ventilators
    • Hamilton T1 ventilators
    • V60 ventilators
    • Night-time VPAP
    • Omni-labs and V30s
    • ABL90 ABG machine

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks and verifications required (criminal, education, licensure)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or PAPR training required
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start required
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative), TB testing and questionnaire
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance training modules required
  • Professional references required (2 within 3 years for travel allied health)
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with a passing score of 82% or higher

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs may lead to cancellation
  • EPIC test-out option available for experienced candidates (optional)
  • Facility-specific policies and confidentiality agreements must be signed prior to start
  • Badge photo and documentation must be submitted promptly to avoid start delays
