Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Nights)

Location: Chariton, Iowa
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, provides, plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care in the Emergency Department (ED). Collaborates effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure continuity of care. Participates in education, record maintenance, and policy updates.

Essential Functions

• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate courtesy and cooperation with co-workers, patients, and visitors.
• Provide high-quality nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions, including direct patient care.
• Use data to prioritize patients' physical, psychological, educational, and discharge needs in care planning.
• Administer medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and accurately.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation and reporting.
• Ensure availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
• Participate in planning departmental changes and improvements.
• Implement physicians' orders and nursing care plans safely and accurately.
• Evaluate patient and family responses to care and adjust plans accordingly.
• Assist other departments such as Med-Surg as needed, including STAT orders and medication administration.
• Prioritize workload and perform timely documentation.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Support and enforce infection control policies.
• Remain resourceful and calm during emergencies.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training.
• Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Attend required meetings and in-services.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, ATT, CPI, RNFA, NIHSS, STABLE, ASLS, NBSTSA, APHON, RMA, C-EFM

• Must be able to work rotating night shifts.
• Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
