Location: Eureka, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - NICU)


Job Description

  • Requires some experience in OB/Delivery/NICU.
  • Shift: Variable (Nights or Days) depending on staffing needs.
  • Traveler may float between units as needed.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Locals are accepted.
  • Pending licenses are not accepted.
  • On-call requirements and weekend requirements are unspecified.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in California
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • At least 2 years of experience specifically in Respiratory Therapy within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RRT-NICU)
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Experience in OB/Delivery/NICU settings
  • OB Technician experience

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Must hold a valid Respiratory Therapist license for California.
  • CPDH Certificate required for all Respiratory Therapists working in California.
  • Certifications (verify per clinical track requirements):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
    • IV Certification (if applicable)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (if applicable)

Required Documents & Background Checks

  • I9 Attestation
  • Government-issued Photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (for Washington state OBRA search only)
  • E-Verify Attestation
  • Background Check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Death Master Index
    • Counties
    • Nationwide
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Education Verification
    • Motor Vehicle Record (if Home Health)
    • International Background Search (if applicable)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
  • Education Verification (3rd party) required.
  • State-specific searches as applicable.
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start.
  • Drug Testing: 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Immunizations and Health Documents:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years or declination.
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination.
    • COVID vaccine or declination.
    • Respiratory Safety Clearance (annual medical clearance for respirator use).
    • Fit Mask test (annual, travel only).
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
  • Employment Application covering at least last 5 years.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to float between units.
  • Must comply with float policy acknowledgment.
  • Must complete required WorkRamp training modules prior to start and annually thereafter, including:
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Specialty-specific modules (NICU/Respiratory)
    • Regional and facility-specific modules as assigned
  • Must complete Epic training modules as required.
  • Passport-style badge photo required.

Facility Information

  • Acute Care Hospital setting
  • Approximately 150 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Free parking on first day; assignment parking provided during orientation
