Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Long Term Care
Location: Seward, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (traveler's choice between 13 or 26 weeks)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 4x12 hour variable shifts or 3x12 hour variable shifts (traveler's choice)
- Shifts are either days or nights; no routine rotation between day and night shifts except for urgent staffing needs.
Patient Ratio: 1:20
Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Long Term Care)
Prior Travel Experience: Required (previous travel experience mandatory)
First Timers: Not accepted
Locals: Not accepted (candidate’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility)
On-call: Not required
Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
Block Schedule: Not accommodated
Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks)
Holiday Work: Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); preference for willingness to work any holidays
Time Off Restrictions: No more than 2 weeks of requested time off (RTO) for 26-week contract; all RTO must be submitted with application and approved before offer or contract signing
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alaska
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Long Term Care, with experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience working in a Long Term Care setting

Vehicle Information
- Facility provides a vehicle for use during assignment (available 72 hours before start and up to 24 hours after end)
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle
- Traveler must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (personal insurance must cover rental vehicles)
- Vehicle use limited to within 30-mile radius and “around town” only (no off-road or outside area use)
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas
- Tire chains available at traveler’s expense
- Vehicle must be returned during any time off and reissued upon return
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (updated annually)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years
- Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Respirator safety clearance (RespSafety) required for travel candidates, medically cleared annually
- Various state-specific background and registry checks as applicable
Training and Competency Requirements
- Completion of facility and specialty-specific WorkRamp modules annually (including trauma-informed care basics)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Skills checklists updated annually
- Epic training modules if applicable (for electronic health record access)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to float to other nearby facilities if needed
- No block scheduling available
- No acceptance of candidates with permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- RTO requests limited and must be submitted early
- Alaska Food Worker Certification is mandatory but completed onsite
This position is ideal for experienced Long Term Care RNs with prior travel experience who are licensed in Alaska and ready for a flexible travel assignment in a small LTC facility setting.
