Registered Nurse - Opioid Treatment
Location: Ketchikan, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (to be discussed at interview)
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
Provide clinical nursing services within an outpatient addiction treatment clinic. Support providers, clinic staff, and management to ensure quality patient care, efficient clinic operations, and compliance with standards. Responsibilities include leadership of clinic staff, medication inventory management, quality control of point-of-care testing, documentation of care, and assisting providers as needed. The role may require early morning hours and Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical nursing care and support to patients and medical staff in an ambulatory care setting.
- Lead and direct clinic staff to ensure smooth operation of front desk and patient care areas.
- Maintain medication inventory and supplies outside of warehouse systems.
- Perform quality control checks on point-of-care tests.
- Accurately document all nursing care and services in a timely manner.
- Oversee clinic opening and closing procedures.
- Anticipate and assist providers and staff to facilitate efficient patient care.
- Communicate effectively with other departments to support patients and clinic operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment and report equipment or safety issues.
- Participate in mandatory training, in-services, and staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska at time of submission.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clinical competency to be achieved within 3 months of hire and renewed every 3 years.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
- At least 6 months experience in addiction services preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Nursing process application in clinical settings.
- Customer service principles.
- Safety and infection control practices.
- Ability to complete assessments, anticipate needs, and collect specimens.
- Proficiency with computers and medical equipment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and be a team player.
- Willingness to teach and ask for help when needed.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands and arms.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Additional Information
- Must have or obtain flu vaccination.
- Fingerprint clearance required; start date contingent on fingerprint processing timeline.
- Position located in a remote area; applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the facility.
- Housing and travel expenses are not provided.
