Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: Santa Rosa, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Float Requirement: Must be willing to float between similar units
  • Scheduling: 4x12 shifts available upon request
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital with 277 staffed beds

Required Experience and Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Postpartum nursing experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • AWHONN Intermediate certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask test required annually (on-site testing available if no recent record)
  • Immunizations and screenings required:
    • TDAP (within 10 years; declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (9/1–3/30)
    • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
  • 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable with attestation)
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use

Orientation and Training Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific and regional WorkRamp modules annually, including:
    • Core regulatory requirements for RNs/LVNs
    • Specialty-specific modules for Labor & Delivery, Mother-Baby/Couplet Care/Postpartum
    • Epic training modules (must claim account and complete prior to or shortly after orientation)
    • Trauma-informed care modules (effective for new and extended placements starting 12/22/2025)
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam required for L&D RNs

Documentation and Background Checks

  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/subcontractors)
  • Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks
    • Education verification (nursing degree verification required)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated monthly
  • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search)
  • Drug screen attestation if instant drug screen used
  • Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background) required

Additional Notes

  • Must submit Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission
  • Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to nearby facilities
  • Facility scrub colors: RNs wear royal blue or navy blue
  • No block scheduling available
  • No acceptance of candidates with open/active felony cases or more than one DUI charge
