Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Weekends may exceed every other weekend to accommodate unit needs
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Unit: Labor and Delivery
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • AWHONN Intermediate
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in large hospital settings highly preferred

Facility Highlights

  • Total staffed beds: 426
  • Scrub color for RNs: Navy Blue
  • Scrubs for L&D/OR provided

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • Includes SSN trace, Death Master Index, Nationwide and County checks, National Sex Offender Registry, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification, MVR (if applicable), and international background search if applicable
  • No open/active felony cases or more than one DUI charge allowed
  • State-specific searches as required (e.g., Washington, Oregon)

Health and Immunization

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask test (annual, travel only)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with declination option
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with declination option
  • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
  • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 12 months of start

Certifications and Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam required for L&D RNs
  • Other certifications as required by unit or specialty (IV certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI, etc.)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background) required before start
  • Completion of WorkRamp modules (regulatory, specialty-specific, and regional core) annually as assigned
  • Epic access training and transcripts required for SoCal and other specified regions
  • Float policy acknowledgment (may be required to float to other nearby facilities)

Additional Notes

  • Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • Local radius for assignment is 50 miles
  • Facility may call off once per pay period (2 weeks)
  • All required skills and certifications must be current and verified before start

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a large, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital in California.
