Nurse Manager - Emergency Department
Location: Athol, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday onsite
Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the 24/7 operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring consistent, quality nursing care and managing staff education, fiscal responsibilities, and daily unit operations. This role involves collaboration with nursing leadership and other departments to maintain high standards of patient care and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide coaching and education to staff to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Design and implement development plans for employees.
- Ensure employee skills align with job requirements.
- Complete employee performance evaluations on time.
- Oversee daily operations to meet community healthcare service goals.
- Improve patient and customer satisfaction by responding promptly to concerns and using satisfaction data to enhance services.
- Manage staffing patterns and workflow to meet demand and productivity targets.
- Justify budget variances and implement cost reduction or revenue enhancement strategies.
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure quality care through cooperative efforts.
- Participate and lead committees, task forces, and performance improvement teams.
- Manage clinical practice and patient care delivery, ensuring compliance with professional standards and nursing plans of care.
- Assess staff performance related to medication reconciliation, hand hygiene compliance, and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) bundle adherence, providing remediation or discipline as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of professional standards, regulations, and research findings relevant to nursing practice.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in administrative nursing roles
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently
- Frequent reaching and handling with hands
