Medical Laboratory Scientist - Contract Position in Alaska
Job Summary
- Independently perform a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services in a hospital-based setting under minimal supervision.
- Conduct all levels of testing including CLIA-defined high complexity testing.
- Provide 24-hour laboratory coverage including shift work, night, weekend, and holiday call on a rotational basis.
- Work with patient populations ranging from infants to geriatric patients.
- Responsible for quality control, troubleshooting, and ensuring accuracy of test results.
- Write and update laboratory procedures, maintain inventory, and assist with regulatory inspections and compliance (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission).
- Train new employees and provide ongoing education to laboratory staff.
- Collaborate with medical staff by providing limited test interpretation and laboratory information system (LIS) consultation.
Location & Schedule
- Location: Juneau, Alaska
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with rotational weekend, holiday, and later shift coverage as needed
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), with experience within the last year.
- ASCP (Medical Technologist) or AMT (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) certification required at time of application. Equivalent national certification accepted.
- Knowledge of laboratory information system (LIS) operation and ability to utilize laboratory software applications.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements including CLIA, Joint Commission, CAP, and other relevant standards.
Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in all levels of laboratory testing including high complexity testing.
- Knowledgeable in LIS operation and various laboratory software applications.
- Skilled in laboratory equipment use, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret lab reports, troubleshoot problems, and ensure sample suitability.
- Capable of working independently and maintaining cooperative relationships with staff.
- Experience training and educating laboratory personnel.
