Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Labor and Delivery
  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Hours per week: 36
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet recognized
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
  • AWHONN Intermediate certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Weekends may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs
  • Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered
  • Travel pairs will not be considered
  • Local radius: 50 miles
  • Facility may call off once per pay period (2 weeks)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in large hospital settings highly preferred

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Check: Within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually
  • Drug Screen: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; instant tests acceptable if paired with attestation
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination
    • COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel candidates
  • Fit Mask Testing: Required annually for travel candidates, completed onsite if no valid record
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with neutral background required prior to start
  • Education Verification: Required for nursing degree verification
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Work History: Employment application covering last 5 years; verification of work history may be required
  • Skills Checklist: Annual update required for applicable units

Training & Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) training required for all L&D RNs, met by AWHONN or NCC EFM certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam
  • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS (Workramp)
  • Epic training modules required and must be completed promptly after orientation

Additional Notes

  • Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other nearby facilities
  • No pending licenses or background issues (felonies, multiple DUIs) allowed
  • All required certifications and skills must be current and verifiable before start

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with current certifications and a strong background in acute care hospital settings, ready to work a travel contract in California.
