Job Opportunity: Operating Room Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Days, 4x10-hour shifts (10:30 AM – 9:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Call required during the shift.
- Charting system used: Epic.
- Required experience in Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Urology.
- Preferred experience with DaVinci Robots, endovascular procedures, and ophthalmology is a bonus.
- Candidates residing in certain Texas counties (including Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris) are not eligible for this travel contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience in the following surgical specialties:
- Orthopedic Surgery
- General Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Vascular Surgery
- Urology
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start date; must be renewed annually.
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start (no declinations except approved medical exemptions).
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, additional documentation required.
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
Background and Documentation
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Verification of highest level of education required (transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily).
- Employment application and resume required.
- 7-year work history verification required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually.
- Photo headshot for badge required.
- E-Verify compliance required.
- Various federal and state background screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required upon hire.
Additional Notes
- Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required as applicable, with minimum passing scores.
- Fingerprinting required only for New Mexico placements (not applicable here).
