Job Summary

Provide recreational care and support to patients/residents by planning and implementing activities tailored to their abilities and needs. Support community reintegration through supervised excursions and assist with patient care tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently plan, organize, and implement appropriate recreational activities under general supervision.
• Collaborate to assess and reassess residents’ activity interests and needs.
• Support residents’ community reintegration by accompanying them on outings (e.g., shopping, theaters, picnics, bus/van rides).
• Provide one-on-one engagement with patients/residents as needed.
• Coordinate with hospital staff to ensure availability and functionality of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain and update the activity calendar, avoiding scheduling conflicts.
• Work with dietary staff regarding special or ethnic food requests and notify them of off-site meals or schedule changes.
• Prepare, set up, clean up, and return equipment and supplies after activities.
• Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment.
• Assist with inventory management and report shortages or requests for supplies.
• Assist Certified Nurse Aides or licensed staff with patient care tasks such as toileting, bathing, dressing, and grooming.
• Operate vehicles to transport patients during community excursions.
• Attend interdisciplinary meetings and other assigned groups.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Recreation/Recreational Therapist license in Hawaii
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Recreation/Recreational Therapist, including experience within the last year
• Experience as a Rehabilitation Therapist
• Current BLS certification

Supervision

This position operates under the supervision of a Recreational Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Activities Coordinator, or Registered Nurse (Director of Nursing or higher).

Additional Information

• Holiday pay applies only for hours worked on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
• Upon confirmation, candidates must communicate arrival date and compliance status to the facility.
