Ultrasound Tech - General
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in an outpatient midwifery and OB/GYN clinic setting.
- Perform approximately 10 ultrasounds per day, including obstetrics (1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester) and gynecological scans.
- Ultrasound types include transabdominal (TA) and transvaginal (TV) ultrasounds.
- Scan types: dating/viability, anatomy, growth, nuchal translucency (NT), and biophysical profile (BPP).
- Patient age groups: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (40 hours/week).
- Two ultrasound rooms available; one tech needed to cover both.
- Orientation: 40 hours.
- Scrubs: Royal Blue (not provided).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ultrasound Technologist license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of ultrasound technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel assignment.
- Experience working in outpatient and clinic settings.
- Certifications:
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- OB Certification
- Education: Associate's degree (such as Associate's of Applied Science, Associate's of Science, or Associate's diploma), Bachelor's of Science degree, or High school diploma.
Equipment & Systems
- Ultrasound machines: GE Expert 22, GE E8, V-scan ProAir.
- Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC (electronic medical record system).
Patient Diagnoses
- Pregnancy care.
- Gynecological care.
Orientation & Start Details
- Orientation attendance is mandatory; missing any portion may delay or cancel the start.
- Start date is subject to change based on class and trainer availability; travelers must be fully available with no other commitments during the first week.
- Travelers may start on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of the first week.
- Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive RTO may lead to cancellation.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
- Drug screening required within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required within 1 year.
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or series or facility-specific declination), and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes.
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 to 10/31).

- Confidentiality agreement.
- Annual compliance training (40 minutes).
- Medication safety training with certificate of completion.
- Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
- Novant-specific orientation and education modules.
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire).
- Corp ID setup and I-Learn login within 24 hours of receiving email instructions.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (not required for non-clinical).
- Employment application upload required.
Notes
- No call, float, or weekend shifts required.
- Patient volume: approximately 20 visits per day with 10 ultrasounds expected.
- Must be able to accommodate schedule changes during orientation week.
- RTO (Return to Office) allowed up to 7 days maximum for auto offer.
This position is ideal for experienced ultrasound technicians with outpatient OB/GYN and obstetrics skills who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a busy midwifery clinic environment.
