Job Opportunity: Pathologists Assistant

Location

  • Winston Salem, North Carolina

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • 16 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday to Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
  • 40 hours per week
  • No call, float, or weekend requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pathologists Assistant, including experience within the last year
  • At least 3 years of total travel experience as a healthcare traveler
  • Certification: ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology)
  • Prior traveler experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
  • Valid state license as applicable for Pathologists Assistant

Required Skills

  • Hospital clinical laboratory procedures
  • Macroscopic description of gross anatomic features
  • Gross examination and dissection of large/complex specimens and small biopsies
  • Tissue preparation and histological processing, including sectioning surgical pathology specimens
  • Specimen fixation, receipt, labeling, and evisceration
  • Tissue sampling for microscopic examination
  • Obtaining and reviewing patient clinical information (e.g., scans, x-rays, lab results)
  • Tumor triage
  • Performing adult and fetal autopsies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Skills in specimen accessioning, cutting and staining frozen sections
  • Experience with postmortem examinations, removal of brain and spinal cord, and gross/microscopic photography

Orientation and Training

  • 8-hour unit orientation
  • Hospital orientation during the first week; availability required for daily classes
  • EPIC electronic health record system used

Uniform

  • Scrubs color: Caribbean Blue

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background checks including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel urine drug screen)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
  • Required to complete medication safety training and other competency exams as applicable
  • Must complete confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment

Documentation

  • Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
  • Professional references (2 within 3 years for travel allied and acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care)
  • Performance evaluation if worked with the agency over one year
  • Photo for badge (passport style, solid white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses)

  • Radiation badge required only if applicable to the role (not typical for Pathologists Assistant)
