Physical Therapist
Location: Alturas, California
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Physical Therapy, the Physical Therapist is responsible for directing physical therapy services, coordinating and supervising department operations, administering physical agents prescribed by physicians, and maintaining performance improvement activities. The role includes budget involvement, ensuring compliance with regulatory laws and standards, and participating in continuous quality improvement (CQI).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in California
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Experience as a Physical Therapist
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate professional behavior on and off duty
- Maintain positive working relationships with patients, visitors, and staff
- Manage time and organizational tasks effectively
- Compile, organize, and analyze data using Microsoft Office applications
- Maintain accurate and organized records, delivering them promptly upon request
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with directors, managers, coworkers, and physicians
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments across all age groups (neonate to geriatric)
- Observe and evaluate treatment effects and recommend changes to physicians as needed
- Assess patient pain and coordinate appropriate physician interventions
- Provide patient care in a safe environment that minimizes healthcare errors
- Develop and implement patient teaching plans including family involvement
- Respect and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families
- Operate and maintain therapy equipment safely and ensure department cleanliness and safety
- Coordinate and direct patient care to meet patient needs and comply with hospital policies
- Participate in CQI and departmental inspections
- Train nursing and hospital staff as needed
- Stay current with trends and developments in rehabilitative medicine
- Maintain professional society standards and ethical behavior
Professional Requirements
- Adhere to dress code and maintain a neat, professional appearance
- Complete annual education and regulatory requirements
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Wear identification badge while on duty
- Attend annual evaluations, meetings, and committee/CQI sessions as appropriate
- Report to work on time and complete tasks within designated timeframes
- Foster cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, and staff
- Represent the organization positively and professionally
- Resolve personnel concerns at the departmental level following grievance processes
- Ensure compliance with policies on department operations, fire safety, and infection control
- Comply with ethical business practices

- Ability to remain calm and respond positively during crisis situations (e.g., Code Blue)
- Effective telephone communication skills
