Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel Position
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide routine and complex nursing care in a Level 4 NICU setting, caring for patients ranging from feeder growers to complex ICU neonatal patients.
- Practice independently with awareness of all relevant clinical aspects.
- Manage clinical situations by making appropriate assignments and delegating to other care providers.
- Patient ratios vary between 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4; CNAs support 1:4 assignments.
- Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekends over six weeks, including two Mondays and two Fridays.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Meet organizational competencies related to leadership and clinical practice.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- STABLE certification (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting preferred.
Orientation and Onboarding
- New experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
- New hires receive preceptorship by trained staff and must complete organizational and Perinatal Services-specific competency validations.
- Completion of all annual competency verifications required.
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 7 PM to 7 AM, full-time.
- Weekend coverage as specified above.
