Job Opportunity: Pathologists Assistant

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
• Hours per week: 40 hours
• Call, float, and weekend requirements: None
• Orientation: 8-hour unit orientation plus hospital orientation during week one (daily classes required)
• Documentation system: EPIC
• Scrubs color: Caribbean Blue

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant
• Pathologists' Assistant experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
• ASCP certification
• Traveler experience required

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree preferred
• Additional skills: specimen accessioning, cutting and staining frozen sections, postmortem examinations, removal of brain and spinal cord, gross/microscopic photography

Compliance and Background Requirements

• Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:

  • Local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search
  • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to profession
  • High school diploma verification (for Medical Lab Technicians/Medical Techs)
• Drug testing required within 30 days of start (10-panel negative screen)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
• Fit mask testing required (N95 or PAPR training)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if needed)
  • Hepatitis B titer or series; facility-specific declination form if titer negative/equivocal
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
• TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire within 30 days of start (updated annually)

Required Training and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or American Red Cross accepted
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) if applicable
• Other certifications as required by unit description (check with recruiter/team lead)
• Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable
• Color blindness testing within 1 year via Relias (except non-clinical)
• Competency exams as applicable (e.g., medication test, skills checklist)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and hospital policies must be reviewed and signed
• Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist required for North Carolina travel candidates
• Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses)
• Corporate ID and I-Learn account setup required within 72 hours of contract signing, with proof of login
• Annual compliance training and medication safety module completion required
• Radiation badge required only if applicable to role (not typical for Pathologists Assistant)

References and Documentation

• Two professional references within three years required for travel allied and acute care candidates
• Employment application must be uploaded
• Performance evaluation required if worked with Aya for over one year
