NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Albuquerque, New Mexico


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (NICU)
  • Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Work Schedule: Float required
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of NICU nursing experience
  • Previous travel experience preferred (not mandatory)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Mexico with primary source verification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • ACLS, PALS, CHEMO, TNCC, MAB, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable
  • NURSYS verification required

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Complete 7-year background check including SS trace, county searches, sex offender registry, education verification, and fingerprinting (fingerprinting done onsite during orientation for New Mexico placements)
  • E-Verify compliance (for direct hires)
  • Education verification with transcript/diploma if needed
  • Signed fingerprint consent form prior to start
  • Clear headshot photo for badge
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Unit-specific skills checklist (annual)
  • 7-year work history verification

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit test for approved masks within 1 year (annual renewal required; fit test done onsite)
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years (no declinations or religious exemptions accepted; medical exemptions require provider approval)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, full series, or declination accepted; boosters accepted post titer
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); declinations not accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color blindness test (online version accepted)
  • Competency exams as applicable (minimum 80% passing score)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and HIPAA compliance
  • Core annual training/testing for subcontractors

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1 year of recent NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Notes

  • Travelers can attend orientation and EPIC training pending fingerprint clearance but cannot work on unit until clearance is received (clearance ETA 1-3 business days).
  • Flu exemptions require accompanying documentation and approval.
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Float assignment means flexibility to work in different units as needed.

This position is ideal for NICU RNs with at least one year of experience seeking a night shift travel contract in New Mexico with a reputable healthcare system.
