Registered Nurse - Outpatient Surgery
Location: Calabasas, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with total joint experience for an outpatient surgery setting. This is a day shift position with 8-hour shifts scheduled between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Occasional weekends required. No floating or on-call duties.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of outpatient surgery experience within the last year
- Operating Room (OR) experience
- Experience in an outpatient setting
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification
Schedule Details
- Shift: 8 hours, between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM
- Hours per week: 40
- Occasional weekends required
- No floating or on-call required
- Scheduling requests cannot be accommodated
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to perform job functions
- Fit test for N95 or equivalent respirators within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if history of positive, chest x-ray within 5 years plus annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella (or 2-dose booster if titer negative/equivocal)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, titer, or declination
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (or 2-dose booster if titer negative)
- Drug screening panel within 1 year (excluding marijuana/THC)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31), mandatory for all candidates starting October 13 and after
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% passing score (2 attempts allowed)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (time sensitive, 3 attempts allowed)
- Pass/fail EKG assessment during orientation (specific units only)
- Medication test during orientation (not pass/fail)
Background and Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 6 months of start, updated annually
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Clear copy of diploma or unofficial transcript required (translated if not in English)
- Two professional references required, at least one supervisory
Additional Notes
- Fire safety training ("Fire Card") required within first 6 months of assignment; course provided onsite during orientation
- Photo for badge must meet strict requirements (passport-style, centered face, light background, no filters or accessories)
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including code of conduct, attendance, job hazard analysis, social media, and confidentiality policies
This position is ideal for RNs with ambulatory surgery and total joint experience who are interested in travel assignments and possibly converting to permanent employment.
