Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Pocatello, Idaho
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00–7:00)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide nursing care for patients with a variety of diagnoses including sepsis, CIWA, confusion, altered mental status, COPD, post-operative care, acute kidney injury, trauma, respiratory failure, bowel obstruction, pyelonephritis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, gastrointestinal conditions, isolation precautions, and suicidal ideation with medical indications.


Patient Population

  • Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics

Staffing Ratios

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification (highest level)
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Completion of unit-specific skills checklist annually
  • Work history verification for the past 7 years
  • Completion of employment application/resume

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient in nursing process across all age groups
  • Ability to document thoroughly and comply with regulatory and hospital standards
  • Strong judgment, patience, and professionalism in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic medical records (Epic)
  • Organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced math skills
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making abilities

Additional Notes

  • Must be willing to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays
  • No local candidates within 100-mile radius considered
  • Charting system used: Epic

This position requires a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse comfortable with a diverse patient population and complex medical conditions in a fast-paced night shift environment.
