Ultrasound Tech - General (Travel/Contract)
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Job Details
- Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
- Call, Float, Weekend Requirements: None
- Work Setting: High-risk OB/GYN residency clinic, outpatient setting
- Daily Case Load: 8-10 ultrasound scans per day, working solo in one room
- Equipment: GE ultrasound machines
- Systems: Epic and Viewpoint
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Ob/Gyn Sonographer experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- Certifications:
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
- Experience working with adult, maternal-fetal, and high-risk patients
- Ultrasound Technologist experience
- Experience in management or lead roles
- Proficiency with Epic system
- Fetal ultrasound skills including abdomen, abdominal circumference, bone lengths, cerebellum, ventricles, diaphragm, duodenal atresia/intussusception, fingers/toes, gender, head, and heart
- OB/GYN ultrasound skills including first through third trimester, amniotic fluid index, fetal anatomical survey, multiple pregnancy, and placenta previa
Preferred Skills / Certifications
- RDMS-AB (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen)
- Experience with portable ultrasound machines and general ultrasound procedures
- Experience with amniocentesis and umbilical artery Doppler
- Maternal Fetal Medicine ultrasound skills
- Fetal echocardiography, inter/intra-orbital measurements, nuchal translucency screening, and umbilical cord Doppler
- Additional certifications: ARDMS-AB, ARDMS-FE (Fetal Echocardiography), NT (Nuchal Translucency)
Patient Diagnoses / Procedures
- Scans for dating, biophysical profile (BPP), growth, amniotic fluid index (AFI), gynecological (GYN) issues, pelvic mass, abnormal endometrium, biometry, crown rump length, pelvic assessments
- Procedures include amniocentesis
Orientation & Onboarding
- Orientation typically 40 hours, dependent on experience
- Background checks required within 90 days of start (local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, education verification)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required and updated annually
- Fit testing required (N95 mask or PAPR training) within 1 year of start
- Drug screening required within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel)
- Immunizations and titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
- Must complete confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, and other facility-required documents
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)
Additional Notes
- No shift trading or time off (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional time off may result in cancellation
- Must provide interview availability within 72 hours of submission
- Radiation badge required if applicable (not specified for this role)
- Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs (not provided)
This position is ideal for experienced ultrasound technologists with strong OB/GYN and fetal ultrasound skills who are confident working independently in a high-risk outpatient clinic setting. Prior travel experience and required certifications are mandatory.
