Ultrasound General/Vascular Technologist

Location: Washington, Iowa
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Full-time, 40 hours per week


Job Summary

Perform high-quality general ultrasound imaging including abdominal, OB/GYN, and vascular studies. Assist radiologists, manage exam orders via EMR, and ensure quality control of imaging equipment and procedures. Maintain a safe and efficient work environment and collaborate with other departments to enhance patient and staff experiences.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general, abdominal/OB-GYN, and vascular ultrasound studies according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist radiologists with setup and procedures.
  • Use EMR systems to generate and complete exam orders.
  • Perform, record, and analyze quality control data to maintain accuracy and precision.
  • Conduct equipment checks, clean work areas, and monitor environmental conditions per regulatory standards.
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Manage PACS systems for image release and transmission.
  • Communicate supply needs to ensure uninterrupted testing.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing education and training.
  • Adhere to scheduled attendance with minimal unplanned absences.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
  • Experience as an Ultrasound Technologist within the last year.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Ability to maintain safe and effective patient care.

  • Ability to mentor, train, and motivate team members.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Work independently and adapt to schedule changes, including shift coverage.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, regulated environment with effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and a professional, team-oriented attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new protocols and equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit less than 1 hour per workday.
  • Stand 7-8 hours per workday.
  • Walk 6-7 hours per workday.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching above shoulder level (20-30 times/day).
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs and lift awkward weights over 100 lbs as needed.
  • Constant fine dexterity required (e.g., typing, writing, filing).

Additional Information

  • Flexibility in schedule and willingness to adjust hours as needed.
  • No prior travel experience required.
