Microbiologist (Medical Laboratory) - Contract in Bethel, Alaska

Position Summary

• Perform laboratory tests, quality control procedures, and communicate with physicians, nurses, and patients.
• Work under the direction of the laboratory manager.
• Provide direction to Medical Laboratory Assistants.
• Must be capable of working independently.

Employment Details

• Contract length: 26 weeks
• Shift: Variable 8-hour shifts (days, evenings, or nights)
• Hours per week: 32

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related field.
• Certification as Medical Technologist (MT) by ASCP or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by NCA.
• 1 to 3 years of related or progressively responsible experience in microbiology, including Medical Technologist experience within the last year.
• Knowledge of clinical laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician is also acceptable.

Immunization and Health Requirements

• Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccinations required.
• Immunizations required (or titers/historical records):

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • T-Dap
  • Polio
• Candidates unable to provide these immunizations will not be accepted.

Onboarding Requirements

• All credentials must be received and cleared before travel and onboarding.
• Required documents:

  • Physical address

  • Education transcripts (if required)
  • Background check results (national and criminal)
  • 10-panel drug screen within last 90 days
  • Competency testing checklist
  • OIG report for all alias names

  • Fit test or physical exam
  • Emergency contact information
  • Three references

Housing and Travel

• Private housing is not provided; housing consists of shared units.
• No pets allowed.
• Airfare must be paid initially by the candidate or agency and will be reimbursed upon arrival.
• Flight itinerary must be provided at least one week in advance for scheduling orientation and housing.
• New Employee Orientation is held only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• Returning traveler pickup is not provided.
