Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department

Location

• Pulaski, Tennessee

• Contract length: 8 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: Detox Unit
• Number of beds: 13
• Patient population: Adults to geriatric (occasionally 17-year-olds)
• Patient ratio: 1:7
• Common diagnoses: Substance abuse, polysubstance abuse, alcohol use disorder, behavioral conditions, hypertension, syncope, seizures, liver disease, cognitive changes, high fall risk
• Treatments include valium tapers, subutex, vivitrol, banana bags, rescue medications, and routine/home meds

Schedule & Hours

• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Weekend hours: Every other weekend and as needed
• No call required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year

Experience

• Preferred: 5+ years of RN experience
• Minimum acceptable: 3+ years of RN experience
• Detox experience preferred; ER experience will be considered
• Experience with CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) preferred

Skills & Responsibilities

• Patient care for all ages within the unit’s population
• IV access and management
• Assist with bedside procedures such as PICC lines and midlines
• Perform bedside shift reports, briefs, debriefs, and unit checks
• Follow required audits and facility standards
• May be required to float to other departments occasionally (not standard)
• Maintain professionalism: teamwork, respect for department expectations, calm under pressure, confident clinical judgment, solution-oriented attitude, and avoidance of gossip or drama

Orientation & Start

• Must be available to start within 7-10 days from offer acceptance
• Orientation held weekly on Mondays
• Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify as travel

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Any solid color
• Prohibited attire: Outerwear with logos/prints not of the hospital, hoodies, open-toed shoes, t-shirts except on specified days, jewelry or items that can be pulled or used as weapons
• Basic hospital dress code requirements apply and adjustments may be requested
