Registered Echo Technologist
Location: Lancaster, Ohio
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: Days
Hours per Week: 40
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Perform cardiovascular diagnostic ultrasound procedures to assist in patient diagnosis, including 2-D echo with M-Mode, spectral and color flow Doppler, transesophageal echocardiography, and stress echocardiography. Support physicians and staff with non-invasive cardiopulmonary procedures while maintaining high standards of quality care.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures to locate, evaluate, and record anatomical, pathological, and functional cardiac data.
- Conduct cardiovascular diagnostic tests such as EKGs, Event Monitor applications, Cardiac Monitor applications, Pulmonary Function Tests, Lower Extremity Doppler Studies, and Stress Testing.
- Record procedure data in patient charts and EMR systems; promptly notify physicians of life-threatening results.
- Clean and disinfect cardiology equipment and accessories.
- Manage supply inventory, clerical duties, patient transport, telephone inquiries, and procedure logging for billing.
- Participate in monthly cardiovascular meetings, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs, and Six Sigma quality initiatives.
- Supervise and instruct students; precept new employees.
- Uphold patient rights and privacy in compliance with HIPAA.
- Perform CPR as needed.
- Maintain a neat and safe work environment.
- Pass competencies including rhythm recognition.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate's degree in Allied Health, complemented by on-the-job training.
Licensure/Certification
- Registered cardiac sonographer credential or registry eligible through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or ARDMS.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Echo Technologist, with experience within the last year.
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of clinical interventions and equipment for cardiac patient care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to quality improvement, safety, and customer service.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated empathy, integrity, stewardship, agility, and teamwork aligned with organizational values.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Medium work: exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds often.
- Exposure to electrical equipment.
- Requires analytical abilities, memory, problem-solving, creativity, communication, and time management skills.
- No special protective equipment required.
Additional Information
- Must demonstrate commitment to ongoing learning and complete mandatory education.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
