Registered Nurse (Critical Care Unit) - Travel Position

Location: San Marcos, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM
Employment Type: Travel, Full Time

Job Summary

Provide independent nursing care in a critical care setting, managing complex patient needs and clinical situations. Utilize clinical judgment and collaborate effectively within a diverse healthcare team.

Patient Population

Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
Post-STEMI patients
Stroke (post-TNK)
Intubated/ventilated patients
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS)
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) exacerbations
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations
Gastrointestinal bleeds
Renal failure requiring CRRT or SLED
Liver failure
Patients with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella devices

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care following the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
Assess and address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
Educate patients, families, and caregivers based on assessed learning needs.
Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers.
Meet organizational competencies related to leadership and clinical practice.

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Coronary Care Unit (CCU) within the last year

Skills & Competencies

Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Onboarding

New hires must attend New Nurses Orientation within 30 days of hire
Preceptorship by trained staff with competency validations specific to critical care
Completion of annual competency verifications required
