Job Opportunity: Nuclear Medicine Tech

Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures including PET scans (prior PET scan experience preferred but training available on site).
  • Orientation shifts likely during first two weeks, scheduled 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Regular schedule: Monday to Friday, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (9:00 AM - 5:30 PM).
  • No weekend or holiday shifts required.
  • Optional call shifts available Monday to Friday (4:30 AM - 10:00 PM) and weekends (6:00 AM - 10:00 PM) with a 60-minute response time, but not mandatory.
  • No first-time travelers accepted; candidates must have at least 2 years of experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in California.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute Care Hospital with Magnet recognition.
  • Total staffed beds: 426.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Free parking available.

Orientation & Training

  • Reduced Non-Billable Orientation (0 hours vs. standard 40 hours).
  • Orientation shifts typically 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM for approximately two weeks.
  • Onsite training available for PET scans if prior experience is lacking.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 12 months of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination.
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually.

Documentation & Verification

  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific background and license verifications as applicable.
  • Photo for badge with neutral background required prior to start.
  • Completion of required annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS.
  • Epic training modules must be completed within a week of orientation.

Additional Notes

  • Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.
  • Guaranteed hours: facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
  • Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered.
  • No weekend work required, but call shifts are optional.
