Registered Nurse - Surgery (Travel)

Location: Alamogordo, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day
Employment Type: Full Time, Travel


Job Summary

Provide independent and proficient nursing care to surgical patients across multiple specialties including Orthopedic, General, Podiatry, GYN/OB (including C-Sections), Pain Management, Urology, and Endoscopy. Apply the nursing process through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation while collaborating with staff, physicians, and management to meet patient needs. Maintain clinical competency and continue learning new skills to ensure safe, direct patient care.


Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork within the department.
  • Promote positive public relations and assist in community service programs as requested.
  • Problem-solve patient and family issues to positive outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and coworkers of varying ages and cultures.
  • Practice the five rights of medication administration.
  • Manage time efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Advocate for patients and respect confidentiality, cultural, and religious beliefs.
  • Handle end-of-life decisions professionally.
  • Maintain accountability for actions and decisions.
  • Follow chain of command to resolve issues appropriately.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental quality and legal compliance activities.
  • Adhere to organizational customer service standards.
  • Utilize policies and procedures as required.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
  • Answer and route telephone calls as assigned.
  • Support the mission and philosophy of the hospital and department.
  • Ability to speak additional languages is preferred.
  • Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
  • Operating Room (OR) experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

Patient Population

  • Surgical patients including Orthopedic, General Surgery, Podiatry, Gynecology/Obstetrics (including C-Sections), Pain Management, Urology, and Endoscopy.

Additional Information

  • Must be reliable and able to work assigned shifts consistently.
  • Demonstrates respect for patient confidentiality and cultural diversity.
  • Participates in orientation, annual competencies, and ongoing training as required.
