Registered Nurse – ER (Night Shift) – Topeka, Kansas

Job Details

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: 2 weekend shifts per contract
Charting System: Epic (experience required)
Local Radius: 50 miles (local candidates not accepted)

Required Experience

Minimum 1 year of ER nursing experience
First-time travel nurses accepted
Prior travel experience not required

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid RN license in Kansas
Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

Valid Driver’s License or State ID
E-Verify compliance (for direct hires)
Background checks including:
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start (includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
Education verification (highest level must be verified)
Work history verification for the past 7 years
Skills checklist specific to unit (annual)
Employment application/resume

Health & Safety Requirements

Physical exam within 12 months of start
Fit test for approved masks within 1 year (annual renewal required)
Immunizations/vaccine requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with follow-up requirements if positive)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; boosters if negative/equivocal
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented chickenpox history; boosters if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1–Mar 31)
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Additional Notes

Candidates must be able to work 36 or 48 hours per week option available
Must be willing to work nights and weekends as scheduled
Clear headshot photo required for badge
Fingerprinting required for certain locations (not applicable here)
Core HIPAA and safety training required annually for subcontractors

This position is ideal for ER nurses with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working nights and using Epic for charting. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
