Registered Nurse – ER (Night Shift) – Topeka, Kansas

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Location: Topeka, Kansas
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 18:45–7:15)
  • Hours per Week: 48 hours
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 2 weekend shifts per contract
  • Charting System: Epic (experience required)
  • Local Radius: 50 miles (local candidates not accepted)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of ER nursing experience
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Prior travel experience not required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • E-Verify compliance (for direct hires)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year background check within 1 year of start (includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
  • Education verification (highest level must be verified)
  • Work history verification for the past 7 years
  • Skills checklist specific to unit (annual)
  • Employment application/resume

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit test for approved masks within 1 year (annual renewal required)
  • Immunizations/vaccine requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with follow-up requirements if positive)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; boosters if negative/equivocal
    • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented chickenpox history; boosters if negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1–Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to work 36 or 48 hours per week option available
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends as scheduled
  • Clear headshot photo required for badge
  • Fingerprinting required for certain locations (not applicable here)
  • Core HIPAA and safety training required annually for subcontractors

This position is ideal for ER nurses with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working nights and using Epic for charting. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
