Progressive Care Unit RN

Overview

• Travel assignment in Chattanooga, Tennessee
• Unit: Progressive Care Unit
• Main building
• 29 beds
• Patient ratio: 4:1
• 36 hours per week
• 13-week contract
• Will accept 48-hour guarantee

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS
• ACLS
• Cardiac/telemetry experience
• Critical care experience
• Chest tube management
• DHT insertion and management
• Tracheostomy experience
• CVC management

Unit Details

• Heavy cardiac patient population
• CV surgery patients are admitted to PCU after ICU
• Performs Q6H head-to-toe assessments
• Common patient types include medical, cardiac, and surgical complex patients such as sepsis, stroke, myocardial infarction, angina, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, tachycardia, heart blocks, post cardiac catheterization, AKI, CKD, diabetes mellitus with ketoacidosis, CVA, acute and chronic respiratory failure, GI bleed, pneumonia, post-operative day one coronary artery bypass grafting, post-operative day one aortic valve surgery, post thoracic surgery, and post neurosurgery
• Procedures performed on unit: Foley placement, IV insertion, wound vac management, DKA management, EKGs, DHT/NG placement, patient ambulation, ADLs

Scheduling and Float

• 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Self-scheduling within reason to allow balanced staffing
• May request days off before schedule closes
• Schedule finalized 2 weeks in advance
• Can accommodate block scheduling for night shift
• Travel RNs float first
